Started training BJJ back in April of 2021. My
main reason for starting was to become a better version of myself and a better police officer. Fast forward almost 3 years and I’ve gained so much more. I have a family at Vortex Jiu Jitsu Academy. 3 competions and the grind of training sessions with many ups and downs.Could not say how thankful I am to everyone who has helped with along this journey.Thanks to all of my teammates and coaches including Tommy Wales. Vortex is a great gym. They will unlock your potential. Coach Tommy, Professor Justin, Squirrel , Jacon, Darrio , Shannon they are all filled with knowledge. They answer all your questions and let you practice until you perfect a technique. It has changed my life since I joined Vortex, I still can't believe being a girl little under 125lbs I am able to submit men over 190lbs. I have gone through a lot in my life and being there made my stress always go away. I learned so much and cannot thank my coaches enough for being there for all of us. We have Brandi As well who is amazing!! Don't wait to join, JOIN us and be a part of this family! They have kids classes too and all of them are badass!

Amazing gym filled with amazing people! Was visiting Palm Bay for 2 weeks and trained here nearly everyday. Everyone makes you feel right at home and it is thanks to the positive environment that Tommy has built. If I’m ever around Palm Bay I will definitely stop by and if you live in Palm Bay you NEED to check them out. OSS!

Coach Tommy puts a great show on but don't stand up for your children or to his double standards or stay and watch your children. He will single your kids out in front of everyone to the parents if they are present in front of the whole class and when you point out his hypocrisy and double standards he will immediately go with the line "You're not going to do that in my gym." as soon as he knows he is in the wrong. Half of his class was coughing a few kids even stated they were sick and his response is they can stay and keep doing class with the other kids because their parents were not present. His ego takes opportunities from children that paid and genuinely wanted to be there.

Great place with even better people.

My daughter and I joined about a month ago and we are both loving it. The kids class has been awesome for her. Not only does it keep her active but she can't wait to roll with her new friends. Coach Tommy and all of the other amazing coaches welcomed us in and made it a breeze to get started with no pressure. They treat you like family and are down to earth. The facilities are clean and people are great, what more could you ask for. If your looking for a BJJ gym, This is it!

I went as a guest and I was treated with the most respect. Everyone there is nice. I had no issue. The owner Tom is very nice and really knows his jujitsu. I went to a few classes and I had fun each time. I recommend to come and try it you will not be disappointed. Everyone there treats each other as family. When I come back to Florida I will come to this gym again.

I first started training here in 2019. At the time, I was going through a really tough time in my life. I fell in love with everything about this school my first week and it has truly changed my life. Professor Tommy is not only technically proficient and qualified to instruct in martial arts, but he's also a great man. He will take the time to get to know his students and will actually LISTEN when you're going through a tough time. In my mind, he is the epitome of a martial artist.

I've developed a strong bond with my team mates. There are men and women of great character that train at this academy. They will accept you with open arms regardless of who you are, where you're from, what you look like, and what you are looking to get out of BJJ.

Vortex is a clean and hygienic academy. There are inherent risks involved with training martial arts. The coaches mitigate the risk by creating a culture of safety.

The lessons are clearly thought and everyone there are truly passionate and willing to help one another out. It's a great place for kids to learn self defense and building confidence.
