When I made our 60-minute reservation, which was a private lesson for two, I honestly didn’t have too high of expectations. Well, our 60-minute reservation turned into two hours because we were learning so much and having such a good time! My friend and I both have our LTC, but we refuse to carry until we are confident in carrying a gun. Before coming to Valor Defense, we had zero experience, which I’m sure was evident when we first opened our mouths. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Steven, who was filling in for his wife (if I recall correctly). Since we booked a private lesson, we had the entire place to ourselves, which I highly recommend. Especially if you don’t want any distractions and/or are uncomfortable learning/practicing around others. Our request to Steven was to start at the most basic level because that is what we needed. To start, we learned how to handle a gun properly, how to hold and stand when shooting, the proper way to load and reload, and how to shoot effectively. We even learned about eye dominance, and we discovered that I am cross-dominance which in all of my 40 years have never had anyone tell me that before. Everything Steven taught us was extremely valuable and is stuff that we will never forget. When we went through the class to get our LTC, none of this was taught, so we were very grateful to learn it all.

After our in-depth discussion/lesson, we moved into the simulations. We had the option to shoot with several different handguns, and although the guns take CO2 and not live bullets, we couldn’t tell any difference. Note: holding a gun that cannot harm allowed us to focus on what was being taught instead of worrying about accidentally firing. That was nice. With that being said, they still practice gun handling safety. We practiced shooting at targets (some stationary and some moving), and then once we had that down, we were put through simulations just as if it was happening in real-time. Having an LTC is great but knowing what to do and how to handle yourself and your gun during an actual situation is crucial. Your life depends on it, and you have one time to get it right. The simulations included a home invasion, a burglary that occurs while shopping at a convenience store, a crazy person approaching your vehicle after a road rage incident and while you are stopped at a light, etc. We went through just a few out of the hundreds of different simulations they offer. You can’t put a price tag on any of this! It could save your life! I can see now why police officers train here. Overall, we were amazed at how nice this place is and we highly recommend it. You will walk away with more confidence, just like we did. I can’t wait to return to learn more or just for fun! Thank you, Valor Defense Academy!

STOP THE PRESS!!! By far the most realistic simulation shooting in AUSTIN!!! Our date night was a complete success. Rather target practice or the zombie apocalypse; you are bound to work up a sweat!!! Definitely going back!!!

A great mix of games that caters to everyone from beginners to experts. It's surprisingly realistic. I walked in an amateur that struggled to reload a magazine and left feeling like an absolute boss after slapping targets and slaying zombies. Would highly recommend for a group event! Daisy is the best.

I took the 2 hour Basic Pistol class and 2 days later I passed the LTC qualification. Worth every penny! Kelsey was extraordinarily helpful and answered every question thoroughly with demonstrations to ensure my understanding to make me feel much safer with handguns. Plus, the digital shooting range has a variety of targets to make the range more challenging than a basic real ammo shooting range, making it so much more fun!

We cannot say enough good things about Kelsey and Valor Defense Academy. My husband and I took the Basic Pistol class and they class was extremely informative, fun and engaging. We left the class feeling so much more comfortable with a pistol.

Kelsey is a great teacher. She's patient, personable and knows her stuff. We would recommend Valor Defense Academy to anyone who is interested in learning more or wanting to sharpen their skills.

We went to Valor Defense with the whole family while visiting in Austin. Kelsey was great. Two of us were familiar with firearms, two were not. Kelsey took time to go through safety, grip, stance, and aim fundamentals. We ran some basic and then some more advanced simulations. Unlike some other laser-only places, Valor’s air actuated handguns have a very realistic feel to make the experience more realistic. And what a great intro before live range or substitute for live range work. Highly recommend.
