I've been a part of the Spartans Krav Maga community for over a decade. for a lot of that time I was inactive due to an extended period away from the area on business and for an extended business due to life threatening illness. Throughout this time the community was supportive and has welcomed me back. During my inactive periods I attended the one day short courses / seminars whenever I could to keep in touch.

The instructors and techniques are world class and practical.

I could wax lyrical for hours about the character and capabilities of Gheorghe Husar, the founder and chief instructor of Spartans Academy. Suffice to say his knowledge is peerless and his thirst to learn from students and different fighting styles boundless.

Newcastle is a brilliant club with a supportive team of instructors and students.

Having studied martial arts for several years previously, I was looking for a more hands-on and real-life defence system. Gheorghe Husar is a fantastic instructor; incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and approachable. He teaches a range of techniques to both men and women, ensuring that as you progress, you learn to apply your skills to a range of real-life situations. Retrieval is key to the successes of the learners as Gheorghe reviews and reinforces key moves every session. His teaching style forces the learners to stop and consider potential solutions to a range of situations instead of simply providing the solution. As an educator of 20 years, I am incredibly impressed, and I am now a lifelong krav learner. The atmosphere is friendly, and everyone is approachable. The full day seminars are fantastic and give an opportunity to meet a range of learners from across the classes. Give it a go. It's a fantastic activity for health and fitness as well as effective self-defense. Fully recommended.

What a remarkable academy! Gheorghe Husar and his fantastic team at Spartans Academy of Krav Maga provide excellent and professional training, as well as a wealth of knowledge about all things Krav Maga and self defence related. The standard of tuition is first rate and their dedication to the well-being/progress of students is unquestionable.
I'll never regret taking the first step to learning to defend myself and all the benefits that have naturally followed. As someone who started with no physical fitness or a martial arts background, I can't believe how much I've learned so far and look forward to improving continuously alongside my fellow Spartans.

I would highly recommend this art to anyone serious about self-defence and good health. Anyone who wants a proven and effective form of self-defence that is practical and effective, practised by several special forces and police forces worldwide. You don't need any previous experience in Martial arts as the art is based on the most efficient and effective counter to a given situation. So, learn it today, keep yourself fit but more importantly, keep you and your loved ones safe when needed in this day where holidays can turn into a fight or flight situation, have peace of mind that you can protect your children, spouse, sibling or just the person next to you, here or abroad. Gheorghe (who has several years of military experience is accredited in the UK and Europe) and his team at Spartans Krav Maga are fantastic, patient, and well trained. The classes are fun and well thought out. Get a workout and learn to keep yourself safe at the same time. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for that little bit extra in a self-defence art taught by a great instructor go along. The admin staff are always happy to answer all questions quickly and effectively.

I joined the Spartans Academy back in July 2021. I have found both the content of the classes, combined with the teaching style of Gheorghe incredibly intuitive and accessible.

From someone with little experience in self defense, it has been an invaluable experience to build up what I now consider essential knowledge and skills in this area. The extra curricular content (such as the online course content, the core Krav seminars) are an added bonus to what is otherwise a fantastic way to learn Krav Maga.
