Went there on a whim with my son yesterday and practiced shot put. There were some other people there training a young boy in the hammer. It was good to see, as the hammer isn't widely taught to the youth.

I'm not sure how accessible this facility will be, but it'd be awesome if it were open to the public most of the time, like a park, except for when USC was practicing. I'm now going to buy a discus, hammer and weight for my son, so that we can hopefully practice more regularly.

There was a gate though and someone from the group that was already there seemed to have keys. I'll make sure to go chat with them next time.

Awesome facility and even better customer service from Conor McCullough. 3 discus rings, main hammer ring, 2 shot rings, and most importantly 2 long concrete pads for drilling and throwing into nets.

After having grown up in So East LA in the 60s-70s there were no places like this to develop and train great throwers. I attended USC on a Throws Track scholarship after attending South Gate High School, thanks in part to great coaching by John Colich and his brother Tom, who threw for USC and their father Don built many pieces of unique one-of-a-kind weight training equipment that we used to get strong. Al Feuerbach trained in the Colichs personal “garage” home weight room that had dumbbells to 160!
The Colich family is committed to throwers everywhere. This facility is the fulfillment of a life long dream of John Colich to give USC, and the southland, a great throws legacy for decades to come. I have no doubt this place will train many a future Olympian.
