Such a great place! My son who never loved any sports we put him in - truly loves coming to martial arts class! Take the free lesson they offer and you'll see what I'm talking about. Everyone there is so nice and understanding - but also focused on helping the kids gain confidence through their own achievements 🙂

We've been at School of Martial Arts West LA for just two months, and I can't believe the positive changes I've seen in my almost 5-year-old! Initially, he struggled to follow directions, stay focused, and sit still during class, but the instructors were incredibly patient and never gave up on him. They continued to guide him, and now he’s so much more focused and engaged in class. He even earned his first white belt in his Wushu test! We’re beyond thrilled with his progress.

I also love that it’s a membership program, allowing us to attend more classes to practice when we can. I truly believe martial arts is a practice that benefits both body and mind. It builds valuable habits, just like they say at the beginning of every class: 'Gong fu is discipline of my body and mind. I am disciplined, have self-control, confidence, concentration, patience, and try as hard as I can at everything I do, both in and outside of the dojo.'
I've even seen him doing better at school too and we couldn't be happier.

We live in our world, where everyone is taught to view people demographically, we categorize people based off culture, ethnicity, race, & it’s apart of how most humans bond & relate. People naturally feel more comfortable around others that they can relate to & psychologically, people are usually oriented to relate to what’s familiar. With that being said, being a woman of color or what people might see as African American or Black or Dark Skinned, people can respond in so many different ways. It was refreshing to come to this Dojo & be welcomed with kindness & sincerity. Society generates allot of fear & people automatically expect to be not understood or they fear discrimination or judgement. Thankfully, my daughters & I were welcomed to the Dojo with Love. I think that Shifu Scott & his team genuinely love what they do, as well as genuinely love & treat all with respect & kindness. I am enjoying watching my daughters grow in their discipline. There is a seriousness to the teachings here that I think are necessary & authentic. Shifu gives allot of great advice to the children & I can tell he’s passionate about growing people in a positive way. He is genuine, authentic, intuitive & resourceful teacher who remains so humble & balanced while dealing with so much diversity & different personalities, I can tell he’s mastered allot of inner work in his journey. This is a very special school and I am grateful that my family and I found it. We attend Sky Mountain Charter school where the Dojo is an approved vendor, meaning our school pays for the lessons 🙂 We are so grateful for the experience, growth & my daughters are happy that they are making new friends too 🙂

Sifu Scott is an incredible teacher! The students that attend the school are great partners no matter what size you are or what shape you are in athletically. We take classes with all adults but they have kids classes as well. Beyond learning to defend myself in rigorous classes that not only engage me physically but mentally, I have learned the benefits of meditation and have seen a positive change in myself and my life overall. If you are looking to get a great workout, feel inspired, learn to defend yourself while improving the quality of aspect of your life this is the place for you. I highly recommend it!

A fantastic school with fantastic students and staff. If you live in the L.A. area, any amount of traffic is worth it to arrive to Sifu Ryan Scott's dojo. His martial arts will change your life and I have trained for years with some of the senior students there! Very good man and teaches incredible techniques not only for your body but your life.

3 years ago, my son, who was 6 at the time said he wanted to do karate. Not really knowing anything about martial arts, I set up visits to 5 different martial arts schools in the area. After our first trial, my daughter, 9 at the time, decided she wanted to do the classes too. After all the trials, we settled on the School of Martial Arts, which actually teaches Kung Fu.

What impressed me was the owner, Sifu Scott, who teaches all the classes, and his approach. He's fantastic with the kids, really understanding the ups and downs of practice. The approach is a well balanced development of discipline, work ethic, patience, focus and partner skills. The kids started in the Junior Wushu classes. They loved the pace and the "serious fun" they had in class. Now both my kids are in the Wushu "big kids" class and they love it. It's had a huge impact on my son's school work too. He's able to focus so much better on his homework and his teachers all say he pays really good attention at school, respecting their authority.

And that's not all! After about 3 months, Sifu Scott started day time classes which I started going to. I was very happy to find something apart from just running or going to the gym. I loved learning all the self defense techniques (that I hope I never have to use!) and the other students are great. The attitude from the kids classes about working together as partners carries throughout the school. Everyone is there to help everyone else get better, so it's a very safe environment to learn in.

I also really appreciate the focus on our internal work as much as our external work. My meditation practice, that had basically stopped when I had the kids, has resumed - leading to a much happier me (and therefore family!) Sifu's Thursday meditation talks and meditations are truly a joy to participate in. I loved it so much that I started to figure out how to get to some of the evening classes too. Then my husband realized that if he wanted to see any of us, he'd have to come too! He started with T'ai Chi classes and now does the Kung Fu classes too.

So now all four of us take classes here, as do several of our kids' good friends. I can't say enough good things about this family we found to help us stay physically and mentally fit and well.

Thanks Sifu Scott and all the students at the School of Martial Arts!
