I enjoyed my time spent at progressive combat systems so much. In the short time I attended the Jeet Kune Do small group classes over the summer I learned a ton.
Most importantly, there is a welcoming and safe environment with kind people and an attentive instructor. Brian is great at making everyone feel supported while still being challenged. The small size of the group classes mean that he is able to give every individual feedback to help them improve. Classes vary in the types of skills and drills that are done each time, allowing you to consistently improve fundamentals while learning new techniques. I absolutely recommend this class to anyone looking to learn practical mixed martial arts for self defense.
The kettle bell class following JKD was a nice extension to my workout, providing access to weights, a plan for exercises and stretches to follow, as well as tips from Brian on weightlifting form.
If you're interested in martials arts, whether you have experience or not, I would recommend checking out PCS.

I have visited many schools in many places and very few are exceptional. I have only attended 2 classes at PCS and I'm hooked. Brian is a natural born teacher with a great sense of humor. He helps you feel welcome and comfortable from the get go. The class size is small and there is a lot of one on one attention. The students are friendly, helpful, and provide a lot of feedback. The price is very reasonable especially considering that the class duration is longer than that of average schools. There is no contract locking you in to payments. If you are interested in learning real situation self defense PCS is a great place!

Rarely do I ever make reviews - Brian and PCS deserve emphatic high marks though!

Aside from a beginner 30 day tai kwon do class when I was a kid, I've never had exposure to martial arts. I suppose there was apprehension involved and the more I started learning internal arts, I knew that I didn't want a run-of-the-mill bow down to your master and buy uniforms martial arts school - I wanted real life and real life saving techniques for likely scenarios.

Enter Brian and PCS. Brian is extremely adept at martial arts, very well articulate and explains situations, techniques, scenarios, counters for beginners and novices. He's very patient, humorous, and never makes you feel embarrassed or like an idiot. He is super pumped about what he teaches and it doesn't matter if you're new or experienced, if you're out of shape or fit, your gender, none of that matters. His content and the way he explains things coupled with his experience, are top notch. I'm so lucky and happy to have found Brian and Progressive Combat Systems. Google can be a crapshoot, however I'm confident if you were to audit one of his classes, you would see the value in what Brian brings to the table! BOOOM!!!

Brian is an outstanding coach. He is able to tailor his teaching methods to meet the needs of each student and helps everyone develop their skills at their own pace. The gym is always clean and provides a friendly environment where everyone can safely train. The JKD class focuses on practical, realistic martial arts that will actually prepare you to protect yourself from violence. You learn how to keep your cool in a variety of situations including knife/gun assault, group attacks, etc. Training here has dramatically helped me to overcome my confrontation anxiety and given me new confidence and boldness.

If you are looking for a truly effective self defense/fighting program, you've found it here! Brian is a great instructor with a wealth of knowledge and understanding. His knowledge well exceeds hand to hand combat and self defense. We frequently discuss mindset, joint mobility and mechanics, neuroscience, vision and eye movement (yes it's possible to improve your vison), physical training, and much more. Over the last couple of years I have gained so much knowledge and understanding in more than just the areas mentioned above. I have sincerely improved my overall being and am extremely grateful for the information I was able to obtain from Brian.

Each day in class is different and you will continue to learn new things and improve upon existing skills. We cover virtually everything in class, gun disarms, knife fighting and defense, how to properly throw punches and kicks, intercepts, grappling, trapping, throws, just to name a few. The techniques and simple and effective, he teaches things that actually work! No frills or for show nonsense which have no practicality in the real world. It's not if this than that, black and white scenarios. You will learn to flow "be water my friend", you will learn what works best for you, develop your own style and preferences, build your confidence and improve your attitude, develop situational awareness, and you'll have fun!

I would absolutely recommend attending at least one class. This isn't a macho meat head thing, there is something for everyone and will benefit anyone who is willing to give it a try. If you have any interest at all, give Brian a call, you will not regret it!

Brian is an exceptional instructor! He is very down to earth and addresses your questions with concise advisement. From the get go, you are in a very comfortable atmosphere. The facility has plenty of free parking space, the studio itself is very clean. Brian sets up an environment where you are welcomed by him and all students and you don't need to feel intimidated by rank. You learn very quickly right away very useful skills and tools to survive in a variety (guns, knives, domestic, animals, bullies, ect.) every day life situations without having to go through the traditional steps most defense classes make you do.
In addition to being able to defend yourself the first time you leave his classes, Progressive Combat Systems provides a unique approach to defense by considering the way our brains work naturally with our bodies. It also identifies for each individual (big, small, tall, large, old, young) which techniques are your best line of defense given your abilities to perform them.
I highly recommend this establishment for ANYONE wanting to learn quickly and effectively how to defend yourself for any given situation.
