Nous nous sommes arrêtés au gîte pour faire une pause sur le chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle. Nos hôtes n’étaient pas là à notre arrivée. Nous avons néanmoins pu profiter des différentes installations: cuisine, dortoir et salle de bain, sans oublier la piscine qui fut un véritable plaisir après une journée de marche. Heure du repas, nos hôtes ne sont toujours pas là, mais nous avons accès à la cuisine où nous pouvons préparer notre repas avec nos vivres. La famille Coulson est arrivée après vers 20h. |Les installations sont de très bonnes qualités, propreté, calme. Seul bémol nous n’avons eu aucun échange avec nos hôtes, chose remarquable quand on accueille des pélerins. Départ le lendemain sans voir personne... c’est alors qu’après avoir marché 5 km nous constatons avec horreur que nous avons oublié le téléphone. Appel au gîte qui nous explique ne pas pouvoir nous ramener l’appareil à aucun moment de la journée, que nous n’avons qu’à revenir.... certainement Mme Coulson n’a jamais fait de longues randonnées. Nous revenons néanmoins grâce au stop et nous croisons Chris Coulson dans le village qui nous ramène au gîte et nous ramènera ensuite sur le chemin. Bref très belle chambre d’hôtes si on fait du tourisme dans la région mais à éviter si on cherche un accueil en accord avec l’esprit du chemin.

Accueil par Madame Coulson qui nous montre très rapidement le dortoir attribué et donne les consignes d’hébergement.||Après lui avoir réglé la nuitée et le petit déjeuner, plus aucun contact avec elle.||La cuisine étant occupée par l’époux et 2 adolescentes, tous trois en plein préparations culinaires, nous sommes montées au dortoir sans avoir pu discuter avec qui que ce soit.||En fin d’après-midi, nous sommes arrivées à échanger quelques paroles avec Mr Coulson mais rapidement il est reparti à ses occupations.||||Personne ne nous ayant expliqué le fonctionnement de la cuisine, nous avons diné dans notre chambre. ||Le lendemain, toujours sans voir personne, le petit déjeuner est pris dans une salle prévue avec les denrées laissées à cet effet par nos hôtes. || ||Conclusion : rien à dire sur l’ensemble de l’habitation propre et confortable, si ce n’est que la porte d’entrée du dortoir grince très fort : se munir de bonnes boules Quies.||Accueil commercial et dans l'esprit du pèlerin. Echanges et contacts inexistants avec les propriétaires. ||Halte à éviter pour le pèlerin.

Pèlerin de Compostelle, cette étape fut un grand moment de calme et de détente après une journée bien difficile avec cette chaleur. |Accueil super sympa dans un endroit isolé magnifique. Une piscine pour se détendre. Un gîte ultra bien agencé et bien décoré. Le top.

We were looking for a chilled out escape from our usual busy schedules and we got just that! From landing at Tarbes we arrived at Happy Coulson within 1.5 hours. The retreat is easy to find and even though it is located 5 minutes from a main road, is secluded and peaceful. On arrival we received a warm welcome & immediately felt that our holiday had begun. ||We were offered a range of accommodation types from camping to dorms to a large family room. The family room we elected for was spacious and comfortable set in a traditional beamed room. We spent our holiday, walking, reading and swimming in the pool, Kate the hostess also took us to her yoga too (she is an amazing teacher). This is a great area of France to explore at all times of year whether it is for walking, skiing or just sightseeing in nearby towns and villages.||We asked Chris in advance for vegetarian food and were given delicious meals which fitted our requirements perfectly. We can't wait to go back!

Happy Coulson is a friendly retreat in a beautiful setting of blue sky and green trees. A large outdoor swimming pool is the perfect place to either chill out and relax or have fun. Rooms are very clean and cuisine is out of this world, all finicky eaters are catered for!! Friendly advice is always at hand as to local walks or explorations further afield by car. There is nothing better than evening meals taken outside with the hosts Chris, Kate and their two children with a backdrop of the majestic pyrenees mountains..

Happy Coulson is a wonderful family environment to be part of. Kate and Chris and kids welcomed us very warmly into their home and made us feel part of the family. Chris was a fantastic chef and presented meals superbly. Kate showed us the wonderful walking trails amongst the woodlands that are part of their property as well as the places to visit nearby. Rooms were large and clean. Swimming pool was great on the warm days after walking to and from the local village. Peace and quiet, great for wonderful relaxing time. Thanks Kate and Chris.

Just returned from my 2nd trip to Happy Coulson, and it's been one off the best trips I've had.||The first thing you'll notice when you arrive is the wonderful hospitality Kate and Chris will show you upon arrival and throughout your stay. They will make you feel part off their wonderful family, and you will leave your stresses at the door and be looked after for the duration off your stay. The rooms are comfortable and Chris's food is fantastic. On a clear day you will have views over the Pyrenees which are as good as any on a postcard.||In terms of things to do I hired a car and explored nearby Pau, Lourdes and San Sebastián in Spain. Kate is a yoga instructor who teaches classes in the nearby villages and I would recommend you attend one as I did. Kate's enthusiasm, energy and knowledge is infectious, and you will come away from a class highly refreshed and relaxed. Ski slopes are also 45 minutes drive away. There are plenty of walks in and around the local area, Wolfie the dog will act as a guide if you wish!||During the summer when I visited the 1st time I found you could spend days sightseeing or walking mixed with lazy days by the pool. There were also numerous fetes and festivals happening in the local area of which I attended the local village fete. I would recommend attending a fete if you want to experience the French way of life (also the French know how to party!)||All in all the biggest thing I took away from Happy Coulson was the feeling of being happy. I would certainly recommend a stay if you plan on visiting the local area.||

This is our second visit to Happy Coulson; my family and I having just returned from 10 wonderful days and frankly, I wish I was still there. ||Happy Coulson is a large, rustic farmhouse, set in its own grounds with all the facilities you could wish for a real family holiday. A good sized pool, amiable hosts and a veritable menagerie of friendly animals. ||We had booked a family room which was a good size, with a double bed and 2 bunks, however our 2 older boys had spotted a large teepee in the garden. Would they be able to stay there? No problem - and they loved it!||Although we'd booked self-catering (you share the kitchen, with all utensils provided), we were tempted twice by Chris's wonderful beef Bourgingon - just fabulous and highly recommended.||During our stay we saw numerous pilgrims come and go and regardless of nationality it was smiles all round - the guestbook makes very interesting and consistent reading.||I took Wolfie the dog running through the local woods most days and the cats seemed to line up to take turns to sit in my lap - my wife couldn't get enough of the 4 horses which trotted up and down at the back of the pool with several acres to run free. It was all very relaxing!||If you're looking for somewhere friendly, laid back and a cut above the ordinary, try Happy Coulson - you'll be as happy as we were.
