Choi Kwang Do has pretty much been my entire life up from the age of 6 and it has been my second family for my entire life. I am currently a third degree black belt and I was working there for almost three years until college had pulled me away. It really became my first passion not because I loved the skills that I was learning but because of the environment. The instructors have mentored me my entire life and they taught be discipline and maturity at a very young age. They helped me learn that martial arts instructors often get painted as strict or harsh in society but here, they are loving and care more about being mentor rather than to just teach you martial arts. These instructors were my role models and I made it my goal to become like them some day. When I became an assistant instructor I devoted all my time and effort into being the best role model for my students. Here at Choi Kwang Do they made me feel so welcomed and I could not have imagined spending 12+ years anywhere else.

I am a head instructor at CKD Headquarters for about 8 years now. I am also a parent who has two sons attending as well. Nicholas who is an assistant instructor and Andrew who just started a couple of weeks ago. CKD Headquarters is a place of where students and families can come to learn and practice the Art of Choi. It is a place where the instructors have a passion to learn and a passion to teach. It is a place where students can come to gain insight on how to defend oneself, improve themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. It is a place where families and friends unite for strength and giving.

As an instructor and a student, my objective has always been to ensure a positive place to exercise, learn and grow. I try my best to make sure all the students learn and improve where they feel they need the most improvement. I also try my best to be available before, during and after classes to help students review their curriculum or answer any questions they have. My goal is to be a beacon of hope for those who wish to accomplish their goals and to help them achieve those goals as much as I can inside and outside of CKD.

As a parent, I look at how safe the school is for my kids as well as others in the school. I look at the overall cost whether it is worth the money to spend to improve our lives. I look at the schedule to ensure we can practice at least 3 days a week (I am usually there 6 days a week).

CKD HQ has many time slots available to training to accommodate everyone’s busy schedule. It offers training for everyone no matter the age. It also has many programs available for various age groups to ensure everyone gets the most out of their training.

For those wishing to explore martial arts, please take care in your decision. You want to find a school/art that fits your requirements/needs. Look at the following areas:
- How developed the style of martial arts
- Location of school for you in relation to work/home addresses
- Cost (monthly, uniforms, testing, gear, etc.)
- Instructors level of expertise
- Instructors years of teaching
- Instructors style of teaching

Lastly, learning and taking on the path of martial arts is a lifestyle and a profound change to you and your family. It isn’t a sport that you just “pick up.” It is meant to change you for the better both mentally and physically. Achieving a Black Belt in martial arts is just the beginning. It goes way beyond…

Because of CKD, I have been able to better focus on many aspects of my life and have improved in so many ways (i.e. Lead Engineer at work, Expert in my field of work, Instructor at KSU, being a better Father for my boys, etc.) I have also made life-long friends who help me to keep pushing to improve myself.

Choi Kwang Do is great for kids of all ages. My son has been a member since he was 4 years old, he’s 7 now and he absolutely loves it. It teaches your child confidence, discipline, and humility.

My family has been coming here for the past seven years. My children started out in the tiny tigers program and went on to advance to black belt status. My son, who is 13, is currently working towards his third-degree black belt. I now am also training as an adult and have gold belt status. My children participate in the kids night out programs, and we have competed in the annual competitions, and we have also attended the family picnics. Whenever I drop my children off at Choi Kwang Do, I feel like there is no safer place for them to be. I trust all of the instructors with my children’s lives. These instructors have also offered to come out to my children’s schools to meet with their teachers. They want my children to be happy and successful at home, at school, and at Choi Kwang Do. Because of learning this martial art form, I know that my children are more confident and have better self-esteem. I also know that they are capable of defending themselves if necessary. The instructors and staff have become very important to us and indeed are like family.

My daughter started CKD a few weeks ago. The instructors are patient, friendly, and knowledgeable, and we felt comfortable there right away. At first, I expected the classes for kids to be so big, she'd feel lost in the crowd and not get as much feedback she might need, but they break into smaller groups and get individual attention. I love that the schedule has plenty of options, too, so it was easy to work the classes into our week. My daughter was hesitant to start CKD (we made her sign up primarily for the practice of setting goals, working hard, and then meeting those goals because she needed a challenge), but she's happy there now. She likes the instructors, has made friends, and she's learning a lot. Can't wait to see how she progresses over the next few years.

CKD has the best instructors there is! They are patient and fun but firm. My daughter has been a member for almost 2 years and she looks forward to going. My daughter was selected for the Black Belt Club and strives hard to achieve this goal. All staff members are friendly, greet you with a smile, helpful and organized. I’ve recommended CKD to all of my friends, a few of them have joined and have had the same positive experience.
