This place is amazing. Great professors and coaches. They are very welcoming to newcomers and great with children and youth. Highly recommend this Academy for Jiu-jitsu. The life skills that are gained from this type of training are endless and very noticeable after attending for under one month. Talk to Tim about getting started!

This is a great place to learn martial arts! Before this, I had NO kickboxing experience, but Bairro is very beginner-friendly. I had the pleasure of training with some of the instructors, Chase, David, and Sydney, who were patient and encouraging during the classes. They took into account that I had no experience, constantly correcting my form, answering any questions I had at the end of the class and taking the time to show me how it’s done right. In under a month, my body is feeling a lot stronger! I did their kickboxing, MMA and PAD HIIT classes, which were awesome.

The other thing worth mentioning is the amazing community they have. Their members are kind and welcoming! Classes were a lot of fun because of the people I trained with. And yes, they have a clean gym.

A great and welcoming space and engaged community. As an absolute beginner with little experience in martial arts, I feel welcomed and encouraged to succeed by a community at all skill levels that is glad to share support. I also get to watch incredible athletes hone their skills for competitions in a community dedicated to pushing each other. Bairro is a great place to be introduced to Brazilian Jui Jitsu, as well as an excellent training and support network for experienced competitors.

Training at Bairro has helped me in self defense in real life scenarios and quite possibly saved my life. Training here taught me how to be a stronger and more confident person and is still teaching me how to improve those qualities. Deeply indebted to the gym and the instructors that I've encountered thus far. It's of course a wonderful experience being around amazing people. Very well managed gym with welcoming and friendly instructors.

I've trained at Bairro for 3 years and my son has been training there for 5 years. I think it's been long enough to give a detailed review.

I truly believe BJJ is great for everyone especially kids. The most important thing BJJ will develop for people is mental fortitude. You're going to lose and you'll learn to be okay with losing (VERY important for kids). This is why I also enrolled my daughter at Bairro when she was 3.5 years old. You're going to be uncomfortable and you're going to have to learn to still think and operate while under pressure. These BJJ traits you develop will go beyond the mats and help you in your everyday life.

What makes Bairro great? First is the community. You can tell that it was the main priority for Professor Hoss. Building a strong sense of community in the club. It feels like home and you're coming to hang out with extended family and friends. So you actually want to come and you miss it when you're not there. That's important because attendance has a direct correlation on how much you'll improve. And having fun will keep you coming back for more.

Secondly it's the instructorship, Hoss is extremely knowledgeable and there are plenty of coaches for the kids classes. There's a well developed and balanced curriculum that makes it very structured for easy learning. I've trained in other martial arts disciplines that lack structure and it's not an effective way to learn.

Bonuses are: lots of mat space, lots of time slots for classes, extremely clean. Also there will be a second location opening up in the new year that you can go to either location with 1 membership.

What I like most about training at bairro is the community there. Hoss and the instructors have created a very welcoming and warm environment for everyone to learn the challenging art of BJJ. The classes are also very structured and top notch.

I visited this gym recently during a holiday when i was visiting Edmonton. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bairro BJJ and highly recommend this gym to anybody in search. There was a healthy mixture of newbies like me, and seasoned grapplers who were extremely friendly and helpful towards teaching you. There was a great atmosphere in the gym where everybody was having fun and learning in a safe manner.

Genuinely really appreciate you guys having me and I hope to be back at the end of this year.

All the best,
Tom

Detailed instructions in class and an absolutely amazing welcome vibe! Very clean gym with showers and spare sandals if you’re like me and forgot. Drilling partners are knowledgeable and so helpful! Sparring rounds were the best! Appreciate you and I’ll be back ?
