As a purple belt I’ve been looking for a gym with a family vibe, fun, safe training environment and good teaching for my kids. I can say without a doubt that I’ve found that for my son at A-Side. My son signed up with his best friend and now both are training 5days out of the week. They would train 7days out of the week if they could because they love it! They are having a blast and making friends while learning great Jiu Jitsu. The schools only been around for a year and they already have 2 teen world champs. Lots of good people training and i say this to make a point that the gym makes an actual effort to keep toxic people out. This can be hard to find sometimes where some owners will choose a profit over actually removing people who are hurting the safe training environment of the school. They also have a sick open mat on Sunday open to everyone. Lots of good rolls to be had

Super nice, super clean academy. I've tried a few Jiu Jitsu studios around and Professor Arman is the best. I'm still very new to the sport, I consider myself to be starting from scratch and I'm almost 40. I was worried about getting one of two things: 1) You get a bunch of agro dudes with a lot of ego that want to beat up on white belts and flex all the time, or 2) I would see a bunch of OG's that are just there to hangout and roll half-a$$ed. I'm really pleased to say that since I started the first day they opened I've gone 3-5 times per week. The crew is really great and all the students are really supportive of each other. A good mix of belts taking the time and willing to teach you and let you work. Side note, I've lost like 10 lbs in 5 weeks of training, so that's a huge bonus. Getting down to the weight I wanna be, summer's coming! I really feel strongly that this is a great program focusing on details so I understand concepts. If I have the technique but don't know what the concept is I'm working toward, then I'm just a guy who knows a bunch of moves. Professor Arman, and the other higher belts, really are integral in helping me connect the dots to be a well rounded practitioner. Cannot not recommend enough!!

Dropped into a free open mat with my older brother. Great environment/clean lots of locker space and chairs and also has gym equipment! Instructor was very cool and rolled with my brother and let him work on him. Awesome gym!

A-Side is special. There are several things about it that I think are rare at jiu jitsu gyms. It's a family business. Professor Arman cares about every single student, from the gold medal winning competitors to the casuals who just want to learn something new and get in shape. He trains the competitors hard, but also invests in the people who only come in once a week. He rolls with every student, regardless of rank, while some black belts don't because they don't want to get submitted by their students. He's a beast on the mats but rolls without ego. They've cultivated a great culture there that will support whatever your personal jiu jitsu journey is.

I was visiting from out of town and did both a private lesson with Professor Arman and a drop in class. I think the vibe of a gym really comes from the top down and you can feel that vibe as soon as you walk in to A-Side. The students, coaches, and professors were all very welcoming and made me feel right at home. The students encourage and support each other and you get the feeling that every one is there to learn and sharpen their skills. There is no ego at this gym. Professor Arman's instruction is also incredible. He's tough and will push you, but he does so in a fun manner. He's able to explain techniques in a way that even a beginner like me can absorb what he's teaching and understand not just the how, but the why. I will no doubt be making A-Side a destination whenever I'm in town. If anyone is looking to get started in jiu jitsu, or just want to check out a new gym, I would highly recommend A-Side. Come with a good attitude and be ready to learn and you'll be welcomed into their school like you were part of the family.
